Zine: pacing 踱步

In Progres

New York is one of the world’s cultural and artistic centers, bringing together performing artists from all over the world. Sinophone artists have formed a unique community within it, working across spaces. However, due to factors such as language, culture, and identity, their voices are often marginalized in the broader artistic discourse. This project aims to document and share the performance practices and conversations of Sinophone artists in New York through the form of a zine, creating a platform for free expression.

Aiming to branch theory and practice, this zine seeks to give the political power of theorizing their work back to the artists themselves. It is not trying to cover the canonical Asian artists but was initiated—and will continue to be—subjective and selective, shaped by personal background and artistic interests. In short, this zine covers what we care about, and I would not be able to find a better word than caring—which also carries a certain degree of obligation.

We hope that by fully acknowledging our subjectivity and this personal connection, we can create an archive of our own—one that doesn’t perform any violence but instead provides alternative perspectives. The zine will consist of interviews, terminology explanations (both in the artists’ own approach and the conventional understanding as a ground for common language), production archives in any form that can be presented on paper, and an audio/recording portion online to go beyond the material limitations of the zine.
